THE BRIEF WAS TO DESIGN AND BUILD A STAGE, BAR AND TRADER UNITS FOR THE BST MUSIC FESTIVAL IN LONDON'S HYDE PARK. INSPIRED BY THE SURROUNDING WOODLAND, WE CHOSE TO WORK WITH DURABLE UK HARDWOODS, INCLUDING DOUGLAS FIR AND LARCH. THIS CREATED A NATURAL AESTHETIC WITH AN ENDURING SIX-YEAR LIFESPAN.
OUR IDEA FOR THE BAR AND TRADER UNITS WAS TO CREATE A WAVE OF SLATTED TIMBER. WE ACHIEVED THIS BY MODIFYING SEVEN SHIPPING CONTAINERS AND CLADDING THEM WITH 200 MODULAR TIMBER FORMER SECTIONS.
THE ENGINEERED LEAFY GROVE STAGE HAS A 10-METER DIAMETER. IT FEATURES A UK HARDWOOD FRAME, WHICH HAS BEEN BALLASTED AND BOLTED ONTO A MODIFIED CIRCULAR STEELDECK STAGE.
THE STAGE IS CLAD WITH THE SAME UK HARDWOOD AS THE BAR AND TRADER UNITS TO CREATE A COHESIVE AND COORDINATED AESTHETIC. IT'S FINISHED WITH A BLACK, WATERPROOF CANOPY, MAKING IT IDEAL FOR THE UNPREDICTABLE BRITISH WEATHER.
